Celebration by George Hallmark
|
Tell Me MoreDuring the first two days of November, the entire country of Mexico celebrates "All Saints Day" or "Dia de los Muertos" ("Day of the Dead"). Like many Catholic holidays in the New World, it was added on to existing festivities to meld the new Catholicism with the old pagan beliefs. Not only is life celebrated, but also the remembrance of the departed. Some people prepare alters at home, while others visit cemeteries or churches to share festivities with the spirits of their loved ones. The bright orange cempasuchil flower, similar to the marigold, figures prominently during the celebration.
About The ArtistBorn and raised in north-central Texas, George Hallmark was an architectural designer and commercial artist before turning to easel painting. His love of the subject is prominent in his unique, painterly style in the delineation of stucco walls, tile roofs, and long shadows in his beautiful works. He is currently completing new paintings from recent trips to Mexico, France, Spain, and Italy. The artist’s originals are represented by Nedra Matteucci Galleries, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Insight Gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas. His work is reproduced by Somerset Fine Art in Fulshear, Texas. "The longer I paint, the more I enjoy this wonderful blessing of creation. The good Lord gave me this incredible desire to be an artist; the rest has been just plain, hard work.” - George Hallmark View Related SubjectsMore Info |
