Texas artist Kyle Polzin has joined the Somerset family. Polzin is well known for his exquisite still life paintings done in the style of the Old Masters. Some of his early releases with the company will feature antique sports collectibles including baseball, football and basketball items. Other paintings may feature antique shot guns or rifles, ammunition and targets. Somerset is excited representing Kyle Polzin and plans his first releases in late 2008 or early 2009. Polzin lives and works in Austin, Texas. Grelle & Thomas Lead C.M. Russell Auction Andy Thomas’ oil painting “Charlie Russell and His Characters” sold at auction for $180,000, the highest price ever paid for a piece of art by an artist other than Russell. Bidding was brisk as Denver bronco football great John Elway and Western art dealer Steve Zabel, of Montana Trails Gallery in Bozeman, dueled to the finish with Zabel finally winning the bid. Honored Guest Artist Martin Grelle sold his “Crows on the Yellowstone” at a healthy $150,000. In addition, Quick Draw pieces by Grelle and Thomas drew much attention selling for $18,000 and $9,000 respectively. Thomas’ Quick Draw also garnered the Juror’s Best of Show Award. This, the 40th Annual C.M. Russell Auction, surpassed last year’s $2.4 million with a total of just under $3 million. Somerset Artists Participate in Prix de West Invitational Six Somerset artists have paintings showcased in the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s prestigious Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale, which will include more than 300 works of art this year. The exhibition opens with two days of special events June 13th and 14th and can be viewed by art collectors and art lovers from around the world through September 7th. Participating artists include Bill Anton, Bruce Greene, Martin Grelle, George Hallmark, David Mann, and Robert Peters.
